About this opportunity

Louisiana State University New Orleans is requesting bids for a yearly international travel insurance contract covering study abroad and international educational travel programs, with bids due November 12, 2026 at 2:00 p.m. and written questions due November 3, 2026. Award will be made on an all-or-none basis to the lowest responsible and responsive bidder.

The scope covers blanket insurance policies for an estimated 350 to 450 participants annually — including students, faculty, visiting faculty, staff, scholars, interns, chaperones, volunteers, alumni, dependents, and guests — engaged in university-sponsored trips, study abroad programs, research, independent study, and internships at locations worldwide, with lengths of stay ranging from two weeks to one year. The policy must deliver comprehensive medical expense benefits up to $500,000 with no deductible, accidental death and dismemberment coverage with a minimum principal sum of $25,000, emergency medical evacuation up to $500,000, repatriation of remains up to $250,000, and 24/7 global travel assistance services.

The bidder must maintain an A.M. Best's Rating of at least A- and a Financial Size Category of at least VI. Bidders must provide references including a minimum of three current university clients for international travel insurance with contact names and phone numbers and demonstrate flexibility with 24-hour maximum response times.

The initial contract period extends from April 1, 2027 through March 31, 2028, with four optional one-year renewal periods available, not to exceed sixty months total. Bidders must specify a total premium per participant per day. Historical data from April 2024 through October 2026 shows participation of 305 to 341 participants per contract year with premiums ranging from $24,120.12 to $31,207.68 and claims paid ranging from $11,828.59 to $39,222.58. Contract continuation is contingent upon legislative appropriation of funds. Louisiana State University New Orleans is exempt from Louisiana state and local sales and use taxes.
