About this opportunity
The Town of Mendon, Vermont, located in Rutland County, is seeking bids from qualified contractors for the installation of a new dry hydrant system on Woodward Road. This invitation for bids procurement is designed to replace an existing ineffectual dry hydrant that cannot adequately supply water to the City of Rutland Fire Department's pumper truck. The project, designed by Troy Dare of Rural Fire Protection in coordination with state and local fire authorities, comprises two primary phases: excavation and removal of the current dry hydrant system, and excavation of approximately 120 feet of trench to bury an 8-inch Schedule 80 PVC pipe at depths matching the existing 40-foot sunken pipe in the pond. Required materials include 160 feet of 8-inch Schedule 80 PVC pipe, 40 feet of 6-inch Schedule 80 PVC pipe, various PVC couplings and reducers, one 8-inch horizontal strainer with backflush capability, one 55-gallon barrel with plugs, and a 6-inch female NH adapter with 90-degree elbow. The work must maintain road access during construction and comply with 2009 MUTCD traffic control standards. A mandatory site visit is scheduled for 10:00 a.m. on March 10, 2026, with Mendon Road Commissioner Chris Baird, and bids are due by March 18, 2026, with final project completion required by October 2, 2026.
The solicitation document does not specify any set-aside designations or restrictions limiting responses to particular categories of organizations, such as disadvantaged enterprises or minority-owned businesses. No incumbent vendors or current contractors are identified in the available documentation. The project will integrate with existing infrastructure, specifically the sunken 40-foot section of 8-inch Schedule 80 PVC pipe and water source in the pond, requiring contractors to coordinate their work with this established system. No specific award value or budget range is disclosed in the posted opportunity information, and interested bidders should contact the Town of Mendon for additional details regarding compensation structure and project specifications.
