About this opportunity

The City of Dunwoody, Georgia is requesting proposals for public art installation on the Womack Wall, a retaining wall constructed as part of the Chamblee Dunwoody/Womack Road Intersection Improvement Project, with submissions due December 2, 2022 by 2:00 p.m. under RFP 22-08.

The wall, approximately 300 linear feet with heights ranging from 17 to 98 inches, is located at the northeast corner of Chamblee Dunwoody and Womack Roads adjacent to the Dunwoody Cultural Arts Center. The Dunwoody Art Commission has expressed a preference for a mosaic design running the length of the wall or consisting of a series of mosaic panels. Applicants must be at least 18 years old and demonstrate experience in public art design, fabrication, and installation. Selected artists must visit the installation site for pre-design measurements and meetings with City personnel and commissions before the Dunwoody Art Commission and City Council grant final design approval.

Proposals must include a statement of interest not exceeding 1,000 words, artist renderings with specific design elements and materials, a current resume with references, and up to 10 visual representations of past successful projects. Awards will be determined based on competitive cost proposals submitted for design, fabrication, transportation, and related expenses; artist teams will share the awarded payment. Selected artists will be notified in January 2023, with installation scheduled for 2023. The City of Dunwoody will own the completed artwork. Artists must retain ownership rights until an award is given and a contract is signed, then must execute a Waiver of Proprietary Rights relinquishing claims under the Visual Artists Rights Act and other moral rights laws. The City reserves the right to reject any and all proposals and retains absolute discretion to modify, remove, relocate, or restore the artwork.

Opportunity text

The Chamblee Dunwoody/Womack Road Intersection Improvement Project is nearing completion at the end of 2022. The primary objective of the proposed intersection improvement project was to improve the efficiency and safety of westbound vehicles as they approach the intersection. As part of the project, a retaining wall was created along Womack Rd. Original plans called for a granite veneer wall to be installed. The Dunwoody Art Commission requested implementing public art on the wall. This busy intersection can be considered a gateway into Dunwoody Village and is adjacent to the Dunwoody Cultural Arts Center which houses the Stage Door Theater, Spruill Art Center, and Dunwoody Library.
