About this opportunity
The Michigan Department of Transportation's Mackinac Bridge Authority is requesting proposals for one vacuum street sweeper truck, with proposals due at 12:00 p.m. Eastern on August 24, 2026, and bidder questions due August 18, 2026.
The scope is a truck-mounted vacuum street sweeper with an 8.5 cubic yard stainless steel hopper body and dual gutter brooms, fully assembled and installed on a Contractor-provided Freightliner M2 conventional chassis or acceptable alternate. The unit must feature a heavy-duty diesel engine rated at 200 horsepower, an auxiliary turbocharged industrial diesel engine of at least 115 horsepower to power sweeping equipment, a 400-gallon water tank, a single-stage centrifugal vacuum impeller capable of producing 68 inches of negative water column, dual steering and throttle systems, automatic transmission with synthetic fluid, ABS braking, LED lighting, backup cameras, strobe lights, and integrated hydraulic and pneumatic controls. Sound pressure levels cannot exceed 79 dB(A) at 16 meters and 68 dB(A) in-cab, measured per ISO 3746:1996. Paint finishes are white epoxy for the sweeper body and dark grey for sweep gear and brackets. Contractors must be certified authorized distributors or manufacturers of the offered sweeper unit and may propose alternative chassis and sweeper makes and models with supporting product literature.
The pricing schedule requires a single unit price for the complete assembled truck, inclusive of all shipping, handling, setup charges, and fees. Payment terms are Net 45; expedited payment discounts are encouraged. Delivery is F.O.B. Destination to St. Ignace, Michigan within a contractor-specified timeframe. The awardee must provide comprehensive warranties: two years on chassis and drivetrain, two years on auxiliary engine (100% parts and labor), lifetime on hopper body and water tank (100% parts and labor, no pro-rating), and five years on the blower drive system (100% parts and labor). The contractor must also provide minimum eight hours of training for six to eight MBA personnel at no cost and host pre-delivery inspection at contractor's facility, covering travel and subsistence for up to three MBA personnel. Award goes to the responsive and responsible bidder with the lowest price. Ruth Thole is the solicitation manager (517-335-4972, TholeR@michigan.gov).
