About this opportunity

Accomack County is requesting quotations for stormwater ditch cleaning on Route 13 and Front Street in Accomac, Virginia, with quotations due August 3, 2026 at 3:00 p.m. The scope is a snag-and-drag operation to remove fallen trees and naturally occurring debris over approximately 2,080 feet of drainage ditch, restoring it to original parameters and ensuring proper water flow under U.S. Route 13 Lankford Highway and State Route 764. Work must be completed within 30 days of the Notice to Proceed and performed Monday through Friday, with 24 hours' written notice required before beginning.

The ditch operation will span approximately 6 to 8 feet wide at the level of the roadside culvert base. A non-mandatory pre-bid site visit can be scheduled by contacting Bill Savage at 757-787-1468 or wsavage@accomack.gov.

Quotations must be submitted as a lump sum via email to jpawin@co.accomack.va.us or by fax to 757-787-2468 and must remain valid for 90 days. For bids exceeding $50,000, a bid bond of 5% of the bid price is required; if awarded, the contractor must provide a performance bond and payment bond each equal to 100% of the contract amount. Payment terms are net 45 days. The contractor must submit valid licensure and proof of insurance prior to bid submission, including Commercial General Liability ($1,000,000 per occurrence / $2,000,000 aggregate), Automotive Liability ($1,000,000 combined single limit), and Worker's Compensation as required by Virginia law. The contractor is responsible for contacting Miss Utility to mark underground utilities and obtaining all required permits.

Opportunity text

Accomack County is accepting bids for Stormwater Ditch Cleaning - Rt. 13 and Front Street. The successful contractor will clear and clean the drainage ditch back to its original parameters. Some projects will require a snag & drag approach to remove fallen trees and naturally occurring dams that restrict water flow. Other projects will require excavating leaf litter, debris and sedimentation to restore the original parameters of the ditch. This project is primarily a snag and drag operation. The existing structure provides drainage for U.S. Route 13 Lankford Highway & State Route 764 Front St. Accomac. This project is required to help prevent excessive water backing up on Route 13. The flow of water has been impeded by snags and debris. The proposed snag and drag operation will start at State Route 764, head south by south west and follow the contours approximately 2,080 feet west to a culvert under Rt. 13. The project will terminate at this point.
