About this opportunity

The Colorado Department of Public Health and Environment, Laboratory Services Division, Genomic Surveillance Program, Sequencing Unit is procuring Standard BioTools reagents and service under sole-source authority, with a proposal due May 28, 2026.

The procurement is restricted to Standard BioTools as the sole source capable of supplying the equipment, services, and reagents. The X9 High-Throughput Genomics System is the only instrument on the market capable of performing metagenomics testing directly on raw stool specimens, a requirement mandated by the underlying CDC grant and project deliverables. Standard BioTools holds exclusive rights to commercialize the High-Throughput Genomics System utilizing Dynamic Array technology and is the only certified service provider for the X9. While distributors VWR and Fisher facilitate procurement of equipment itself, they cannot distribute service agreements or warranties; only Standard BioTools can supply those components. Training by Standard BioTools representatives is mandatory prior to instrument use.

The scope includes two replacement Standard BioTools X9 High-Throughput Genomics Systems, five-year service agreements, and associated reagents to expand testing capacity for an ongoing CDC-funded APHL grant project. A trade-in credit applies for the original Fluidigm Juno instrument (Serial Number 130249).

The estimated total contract value is $2.3 million for equipment and service agreements, plus an additional $1 million allocated for increased reagent requirements. The contract term runs from December 13, 2023, through December 12, 2028. Price reasonableness was determined by comparison to historical pricing for the previous Fluidigm Juno model. Place of performance is Denver County and Denver City, Colorado.
