About this opportunity
The City of San Antonio Animal Care Services is requesting applications from qualified veterinarians to provide spay, neuter, and related surgical services at ACS facilities, with applications due August 25, 2026 (though the RFA document itself specifies an August 19, 2026 deadline). Applicants must be licensed to practice veterinary medicine in Texas and obtain professional liability insurance with limits of $1,000,000 per claim, with a Certificate of Insurance due at least 30 days before scheduled service.
The scope includes routine spay and neuter procedures, non-routine surgeries such as cryptorchid and pyometra cases, wellness examinations, vaccinations, microchipping, and emergency care. Contractors must perform a minimum of 10 spay/neuter surgeries per shift with expectations to scale to 20 or more surgeries per day, manage intra-operative and post-operative complications, maintain complication rates below 1%, and communicate directly with pet owners regarding medical findings and surgical outcomes. All work is performed at ACS facilities in San Antonio, Texas.
Compensation is $1,300.00 per shift, plus an additional $50.00 travel stipend for contractors residing outside San Antonio city limits and more than 25 miles from the clinic. Contractors may receive reimbursement up to $1,000.00 per DEA license per location. The contract term is not specified. Applicants must submit completed application forms including general information, references, resume and licenses, contracts disclosure, and litigation disclosure via email or mail to the ACS Contract Coordinator. Department credentialing and compliance with City indemnification standards are required.
