About this opportunity

The Florida School for the Deaf and the Blind (FSDB) has issued a single source procurement notice (SS-25-053) for multiple Brailliant Braille Display 40X units, specifically seeking these assistive technology devices from HumanWare through their authorized distributor, Florida Vision Technology. The procurement is located in St. Johns County and is open from October 24, 2025, to November 17, 2025, with a procurement process governed by Florida Statutes 287.057(3) and 120.57(3). The primary objective is to acquire specialized braille display technology for individuals who are blind or have low vision, with the devices being exclusively manufactured by HumanWare, who owns all relevant copyrights and trademarks. Potential vendors who believe they can provide alternative solutions are invited to submit information to Kim Whitwam during the fifteen-business-day advertising period. The procurement allows for agency discretion to modify the solicitation based on responses received, with a clear emphasis on the unique technological specifications of the Brailliant Braille Display units.

The single source procurement has specific geographical restrictions, with Florida Vision Technology authorized to distribute HumanWare products in 37 Florida counties, including St. Johns County. There are no explicit set-aside designations or restrictions on responding organizations mentioned in the documentation. The contract has a defined not-to-exceed budget of $74,000.00 for fiscal year 25-26, representing a targeted procurement for assistive technology. HumanWare is positioned as the sole manufacturer, with Florida Vision Technology serving as the exclusive regional distributor. The procurement appears designed to meet specific technological needs of the Florida School for the Deaf and the Blind, with a focus on acquiring specialized braille display technology through a carefully defined distribution channel. The solicitation provides an opportunity for potential vendors to demonstrate alternative capabilities, though the single source nature suggests a strong preference for the specified HumanWare product through Florida Vision Technology.
