About this opportunity
Stony Brook University Hospital intends to procure shoulder implants and related items through a Vizient contract (#MS1137) with Zimmer Biomet, utilizing procurement authority under section 163(3)(vi) of New York state law. The procurement allows for direct purchase without a formal competitive process, with the initial contract term spanning from August 1, 2022, to July 31, 2027, and includes potential for one optional 1-year renewal contingent upon Group Purchasing Organization (GPO) extension. The contract covers medical device procurement specifically for shoulder implants, with proposals due by close of business on October 27, 2025, and a contract period running from October 28, 2025, to July 31, 2027. Vendors interested in supplying equivalent products are encouraged to contact the procurement officer, with strict adherence required to NYS Finance Law 139 j&k (Lobbying Law). Successful contractors must complete and submit various documentation, including Vendor Responsibility forms, NYS Tax Law Section 5-a compliance, and current workers' compensation documentation.
The procurement opportunity does not include a Service-Disabled Veteran-Owned business set-aside, and the current procurement appears to be directly targeted at Zimmer Biomet, which has been awarded identical or substantially similar contracts within the past five years. The jurisdictions involved include Suffolk County and Syracuse City in New York State, suggesting a regional procurement focus. While specific award values are not explicitly stated, the procurement's multi-year nature and medical device specificity suggest a potentially significant contract value. The procurement process emphasizes vendor compliance and responsible contracting, with strict guidelines around communication and documentation. Vendors must be prepared to meet comprehensive regulatory requirements and demonstrate capability to supply high-quality shoulder implant medical devices consistent with the specifications outlined in the Vizient contract.
