About this opportunity
The South Dakota Department of Public Safety Wildland Fire Division (SDWF) is seeking qualified contractors to perform hazardous fuels reduction treatment on approximately 78.67 acres of property near Sturgis, South Dakota, located in Section 3, Township 5N, Range 5E. The Request for Proposal (RFP) targets comprehensive vegetation management, specifically focusing on thinning, piling, and chipping/mulching/grinding of ponderosa pine, spruce, cedar, and juniper trees with a diameter of 10 inches or smaller. Contractors will be responsible for biomass utilization and must adhere to the state's Best Management Practices throughout the project. Evaluation criteria will include proposed cost per acre, contractor expertise, available resources, site familiarity, proposed methods and timeline, and biomass utilization approach. Key dates include site visits scheduled for September 27 and October 4, 2024, with proposal submissions due by October 25, 2024, and contract award anticipated on November 1, 2024. Inquiries must be submitted via email to Jordon Harrington at Jordon.harrington@state.sd.us with the subject line "RFP # 11151" and must be received before the specified deadline.
The SDWF reserves the right to award contracts to multiple contractors and maintains flexibility to suspend activities due to potential issues such as insect infestation or endangered species concerns. While the RFP documentation does not explicitly outline specific set-aside designations or restrictions for disadvantaged enterprises, the procurement appears open to multiple qualified contractors. The contract term is specified as three years, providing significant opportunity for consistent work in hazardous fuels reduction. Though specific budget ranges are not detailed in the provided documents, the scope of work suggests a substantial project involving comprehensive forest management across nearly 79 acres. Contractors interested in this opportunity must demonstrate technical capabilities in forest treatment, biomass management, and adherence to environmental best practices. The project represents a strategic approach to wildland fire prevention and ecological management in the Sturgis area of South Dakota.
