About this opportunity

UCLA is seeking an Executive Architect through a Request for Qualifications (RFQ) for the Santa Monica UCLA Medical Center's 3rd Floor Central Wing Gastrointestinal Medical Procedures Unit Reconfiguration project (Project #907601.01). The procurement involves renovating and reconfiguring approximately 1,200 square feet of shelled space on the third floor of the Central Wing to create a new Gastrointestinal (GI) Medical Procedure Unit and supporting spaces. Respondents must demonstrate extensive experience in planning, designing, and administering construction for medical procedure rooms, with specific expertise in California Department of Health Care Access and Information (HCAi) requirements for OSHPD 1 buildings, National Fire Protection Association (NFPA) regulations, California Department of Public Health standards, and Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA) compliance. The RFQ was posted on September 3, 2025, with responses due by September 26, 2025. Evaluation criteria will focus on the architectural firm's demonstrated technical competence, relevant project experience, and ability to meet complex healthcare facility renovation requirements. The project is located at 1250 16th St., Santa Monica, CA 90404, within an existing medical center complex originally constructed in 2012.

The project will be subject to review and final approval by the University of California Board of Regents or their delegated authority, with selection contingent upon compliance with the California Environmental Quality Act (CEQA). While no specific set-aside designations or disadvantaged enterprise requirements are explicitly mentioned, the procurement appears to be open to qualified architectural firms with specialized healthcare design experience. The construction cost is anticipated to be between $3 and $5 million, depending on project phasing and agreed scope of work. The project involves renovating an existing hospital facility within the Santa Monica UCLA Medical Center, which consists of five interconnected buildings, with the Central Wing being a 99,805 gross square foot facility. The procurement will require detailed understanding of complex medical facility design standards, regulatory compliance, and specialized medical procedure room configurations. Final architect selection will be determined by a selection committee evaluating submitted qualifications and expertise in healthcare facility renovation and design.
