About this opportunity
The City of Hillsdale, Michigan, specifically its Board of Public Utilities (BPU), is seeking sealed proposals for a roof replacement project for a 40 x 80 storage building located at 201 Water Works Avenue. The procurement involves providing a new 29-gauge rib style roof with exposed fasteners, utilizing steel roofing with a painted Galvalume coating and a minimum 20-year warranty. Contractors are required to completely remove the existing roof, repair or replace damaged roof decking and fascia boards, and install a new roofing system with appropriate underlayment, wind/water shield, and flashing. The request for proposal (RFP) mandates comprehensive technical specifications, including specific roofing material requirements and installation standards. Key dates include a proposal submission deadline of April 15, 2025, at 2:00 pm local time at the Hillsdale City Hall Office of the City Clerk, with a proposed project schedule featuring a BPU presentation on May 13, 2025, City Council contract award on May 19, 2025, and project completion by July 4, 2025. While no pre-scheduled site inspection is planned, interested contractors can contact Jake Hammel, Electric Director, to arrange a site visit.
The contract does not explicitly outline specific set-aside designations or restrictions for disadvantaged enterprises. Contractors must provide comprehensive general public liability insurance with specific minimum coverage limits and auto liability insurance, along with performance and maintenance bonds. The city emphasizes local labor and materials sourcing and has a detailed contractor safety policy covering work performance, training, and risk management. The project will be paid on a lump sum basis, with a maximum of 5% of the bid amount allocated for mobilization. While a specific budget range is not disclosed, the comprehensive insurance and bonding requirements suggest the project has substantial financial expectations. No information is provided about incumbent vendors or existing infrastructure requiring integration. Prospective bidders should carefully review the attached RFP document (BPU Storage Building - ROOF.pdf) for complete details on technical specifications, insurance requirements, and project expectations.
