About this opportunity
Dane County, Wisconsin is requesting bids for road-killed deer pickup and disposal services under RFB 2026-RFB-014-PR, with bids due June 25, 2026 at 2:00 PM — a deadline that has passed. Local vendor preferences apply: Locally Based and Owned Vendors receive price-matching within 15% of the low bid; Locally Operated Vendors within 10%; and Non-Locally Operated Vendors within 5%.
The scope requires retrieval and disposal of deer carcasses struck by vehicles within the highway right-of-way, with all carcasses transported to Wisconsin Department of Natural Resources-licensed landfills. Contractors must complete pickups within two business days of notification, excluding weekends and specified holidays, and maintain email and cellular communication capabilities. Pricing is quoted as a fixed per-deer pickup and disposal fee inclusive of all labor, equipment, and transportation costs; future pricing for renewal terms is submitted as percentage increases.
Required qualifications are minimum two years of experience providing similar services, access to necessary equipment and vehicles, Commercial General Liability insurance of at least $1 million, Workers' Compensation insurance at statutory limits, and Environmental Impairment Liability insurance of at least $1 million. Contractors must submit weekly pickup reports with landfill receipts for payment authorization and comply with all local, state, and federal regulations.
The County expects approximately 101 pickups annually based on 2025 data, though historical data from 2021–2024 shows an average of approximately 291 deer per year, ranging from 260 to 359 carcasses. The contract term begins January 1, 2027, with an initial one-year term and four optional one-year renewal terms extending through December 31, 2031.
