About this opportunity
Ashe County Schools is requesting qualifications from North Carolina-licensed General Contractors for design-build architectural, engineering, and construction services to restore a pre-engineered metal storage building and complete associated field-access improvements at Ashe County Middle School, with proposals due November 2, 2026. The project must be completed turnkey, code-compliant, and fully operational by June 30, 2027.
The storage building is approximately 52 feet by 18 feet (936 square feet) with a 14-foot minimum eave height, a 14-foot-wide by 12-foot-high coiling overhead door, one insulated personnel door, reinforced concrete slab-on-grade foundation, commercial-grade electrical service (minimum 100-amp, 120/240-volt, single-phase), LED lighting, and slip-resistant finished floor. Field-access improvements total approximately 780 square yards and include excavation and removal of unsuitable soil, geotextile stabilization fabric installation, placement of ABC stone or approved crushed millings, and grading for positive drainage to accommodate maintenance equipment and construction vehicles. All dimensions, grades, utility locations, and tie-in points are approximate and must be field-verified before construction.
The Contractor must demonstrate experience in commercial metal buildings, concrete and site work, drainage, electrical coordination, and accessibility compliance. All work must comply with North Carolina State Building Code, North Carolina Fire Code, National Electrical Code, OSHA requirements, and accessibility standards, with final design prepared and sealed by North Carolina licensed professionals where required. The project is subject to North Carolina Department of Public Instruction review for public-school construction and FEMA Public Assistance requirements.
The project schedule requires field-access improvements to begin mid-March 2027 with completion by early April 2027, building construction to commence thereafter. The source does not identify a contract value, incumbent, evaluation criteria, or set-aside program. Contact Jody Corum, Director of Maintenance, at (336) 246-7175 or jody.corum@ashe.k12.nc.us to obtain the complete RFQ package.
