About this opportunity
Walled Lake Consolidated School District is requesting sealed bids for asbestos abatement at Walled Lake Western High School prior to renovations, with proposals due May 27, 2026 at 10:00 a.m. EST — the offer expires tomorrow. A mandatory pre-bid walk-through was held May 19, 2026 at the school's main entrance; bidding documents became available May 14 through Arch Environmental Group.
The scope encompasses removal and disposal of asbestos-containing materials including floor tile and mastic, interior and exterior window frames with asbestos glazing, lab countertops, interior door frames with asbestos caulk, sinks with asbestos undercoating, thermal system insulation, and tagged fire doors and frames across multiple areas of the building. Project Group WLW-1 (Area E) is scheduled June 17–25, 2026, allowing eight workdays; Project Group WLW-3 (Area H) runs June 30–July 6, 2026, with four workdays. The contractor must establish negative pressure regulated enclosures under Class II removal procedures and comply with AHERA and OSHA Asbestos Standard requirements. Air and bulk clearance sampling thresholds are specified: TEM samples must measure below an average of 70 AS/mm² inside enclosures, and PCM samples below 0.01 fibers per cubic centimeter. The contractor is responsible for boarding and weatherproofing all exterior window openings with plywood and 2' × 4' supports, expected to remain in place up to two weeks.
Sealed proposals in duplicate must be submitted to the Educational Services Center at 850 Ladd Road, Building D, Walled Lake, Michigan 48390, addressed to Victoria Amore. Bids will be publicly opened at 10:00 a.m. on May 27. A bid bond or cashier's check of at least 5% of proposal amount is required for bids exceeding $30,321. Proposals of $50,000 or more require a Performance and Payment Bond from a Treasury-listed surety at 100% of bid amount, with bond cost included in the proposal. All bids must remain firm for 60 days and include sworn, notarized statements disclosing familial relationships with board members or superintendent and compliance with the Iran Economic Sanctions Act. Addendum No. 1, issued May 26, modifies Project Group WLW-1 specifications to reflect exterior window frames with asbestos glazing rather than asbestos caulk.
