About this opportunity

Montgomery County, Maryland is seeking qualified veterinarians to provide routine and emergency veterinary services for its Police Department's Canine Unit through Request for Proposal #1174417. The solicitation, posted on March 25, 2025, with responses due by April 24, 2025, aims to establish multiple contracts with veterinary professionals who can support the department's specialized canine operations. The Department of Police, which includes approximately 1,300 sworn officers and 650 support personnel, requires veterinary services for canines utilized in critical law enforcement functions such as tracking suspects, searching crime scenes, apprehending fleeing suspects, and conducting explosives and narcotics searches. Bidders must register through BidNet's Maryland Purchasing Group platform, with free registration available by selecting the "Limited" option. While specific evaluation criteria are not explicitly detailed in the document, vendors must demonstrate professional veterinary qualifications and the ability to provide comprehensive medical care for police service animals. Interested parties requiring registration assistance can contact BidNet Direct's Support Department at 800-835-4603.

The solicitation does not specify explicit set-aside designations or restrictions for disadvantaged business enterprises. The contract will be structured with no guaranteed service volume or specific funding commitment, providing flexibility for the county in managing veterinary service procurement. Potential contractors should understand that the engagement is performance-based and may involve responding to both routine and emergency veterinary needs for the police canine unit. The procurement is open to licensed veterinary professionals capable of delivering medical services across various potential scenarios involving police service animals. While the document does not outline precise budget ranges, interested veterinarians should be prepared to offer competitive pricing and demonstrate comprehensive medical capabilities specific to working police canines. The multi-contract approach suggests Montgomery County seeks to establish a panel of qualified veterinary providers rather than selecting a single exclusive vendor.
