About this opportunity

The District of Columbia is soliciting bids for a restoration project focused on historic lighting infrastructure. The contract involves comprehensive lighting renovation work, including replacing existing lights with new ornamental lanterns, installing light posts, renovating railing lights, and painting rails and light poles. Potential bidders must submit a non-refundable fee of $30.00 payable to the D.C. Treasurer via company check or money order, and provide a bid bond equal to 5% of the total bid amount. Companies located in the Washington Metropolitan area are required to pick up specifications in person, while out-of-metro companies may incur mailing costs. The project is classified as a Federal-Aid Project, which means it is subject to federal regulations, specifically Title VI of the Civil Rights Acts of 1964, and will be governed by U.S. Department of Labor wage rates. The contract opportunity was originally posted on March 27, 2002, with a due date listed as December 30, 1899 (which appears to be an administrative error).

The procurement seems open to companies within the Washington Metropolitan area, with specific geographical proximity potentially influencing bid eligibility. As a federal-aid project, there may be preferences or set-aside provisions for disadvantaged business enterprises, though specific details are not provided in the original posting. The project's federal involvement suggests potential opportunities for small, minority-owned, or women-owned businesses. While no specific budget range is listed, the requirement of a 5% bid bond indicates the project likely has substantial financial scope. The contract appears to be specifically targeted at contractors with expertise in historic infrastructure restoration, lighting installation, and municipal infrastructure improvement. Potential bidders should have demonstrated capabilities in urban lighting renovation, metalwork, painting, and compliance with federal labor and civil rights regulations.
