About this opportunity

The University of California, Irvine (UCI) is seeking qualified architectural design consultants through a Request for Qualifications (RFQ) for various campus renovation and design projects. The procurement aims to select between two and five architectural firms to provide comprehensive design services over a three-year period. Required services include preparing pre-schematic design documents, feasibility studies, programming, cost estimating, schematic design, design development, construction drawings, technical specifications, and construction administration. Deliverables must comply with UCI Campus Fire Marshal requirements, Facilities Management Engineering standards, Campus Standards, Design Criteria, and BIM Standards. The RFQ was released on January 24, 2025, with electronic forms available by contacting Myai Mitchell at myaim@uci.edu, and submissions are due by 4:00 PM on February 7, 2025, in PDF format. The total estimated construction value for projects ranges from $100,000 to $5,000,000, with an emphasis on consultants capable of quick turnaround and producing responsive, coordinated design solutions.

The procurement process emphasizes equal employment opportunity, and interested firms will be required to demonstrate their commitment to inclusive hiring practices. No specific set-aside designations or restrictions for disadvantaged enterprises are explicitly mentioned in the document. The contract does not guarantee minimum work commitments, and UCI retains sole discretion in selecting consultants. The three-year blanket agreements will establish a pool of design professionals who can be engaged for various campus renovation projects, including research and laboratory renovations, classroom and lecture hall updates, and general renovation work. While no incumbent vendors are listed, the RFQ indicates that selected consultants will work on an as-needed basis, with project scopes ranging from $100,000 to $5,000,000. The total contract duration is set for three years, providing potential ongoing opportunities for selected architectural design firms.
