About this opportunity

The City of Nevada City is requesting proposals for the purchase and installation of a multi-purpose sound system at the Nevada City Miners Foundry, with proposals due July 30, 2026 at 3:00 p.m. An optional facility tour could have been scheduled by July 17; questions were due July 21, 2026 at 5:00 p.m., with answers posted by July 23.

Contractors must hold a minimum of five years of experience performing substantially similar work and obtain a Nevada City Business License. Prevailing wage requirements apply under California Labor Code sections 1770–1777, with penalties up to $200 per day for violations. Contractors must maintain Commercial General Liability Insurance of $2 million combined single limit ($4 million annual aggregate), Commercial Business Auto Insurance of $2 million combined single limit, and Workers' Compensation Insurance with $1 million Employers' Liability coverage.

The scope includes a complete sound system — speakers, amplifiers, mixing consoles, microphones, wireless systems, cables, stands, and related audio equipment — designed to deliver rich, bold sound throughout the concert/dance hall while minimizing noise impact on neighboring properties. The system quality and sound delivery should be comparable to existing equipment. The contractor furnishes all labor, material, software, equipment, and transportation for supply and installation.

Pricing is submitted as a lump sum including per-unit and total equipment costs, installation costs, and training costs (a mandatory two-hour training session for five City employees plus hourly on-call support up to 25 hours). Project duration is anticipated to be completed within 45 days from award. The City will negotiate a final contract price with the selected consultant following City Council approval.

Evaluation criteria: technical approach (20 points), experience with performing arts/multi-room venues (20 points), system performance (20 points), price (30 points), and schedule (10 points). Proposals require a cover letter, statement of qualifications, project schedule, bid schedule, and acoustical design description in two sealed copies. The City reserves the right to accept, reject, or modify any or all proposals and will act on proposals within 45 days of opening.
