About this opportunity
The Florida Department of Transportation (FDOT) Maintenance Office is pursuing a single-source procurement for replacing weight station scales at the Punta Gorda facility. The project specifically involves replacing Scale 2 on both northbound and southbound facilities, which requires a 4-foot location shift and constructing a new scale pit to accommodate an 86-foot scale length. The procurement aims to enhance safety, improve mobility, and decrease commercial vehicle wait times at the weigh station. Key deliverables include the installation of new scales integrated with existing Weigh-In-Motion (WIM) systems, with a focus on maintaining compatibility with current infrastructure. The procurement is time-sensitive, with vendor information required by 5:00 p.m. EST on January 23, 2025, and the contract term set for one year. Evaluation will center on the vendor's ability to meet technical specifications and integration requirements, with a focus on proprietary system compatibility.
The procurement is explicitly identified as a single-source opportunity with Mettler Toledo, LLC as the intended vendor. This selection is justified by Mettler Toledo's unique position as the developer of existing computer systems, holder of exclusive copyright for Scale Management software/hardware, and provider of proprietary electronic scales critical to the WIM system. No specific set-aside designations for disadvantaged enterprises were mentioned in the documentation. The project falls under multiple commodity codes including weighing services, industrial weight scale maintenance, weight measuring instruments, and vehicle testing equipment. The estimated contract value is $767,706.00, covering the scale replacement and associated integration work. No restrictions were noted regarding the types of organizations that could potentially respond, though the single-source nature effectively limits competition to Mettler Toledo.
