About this opportunity

The City of Gaithersburg is soliciting proposals from consulting engineering firms to provide professional engineering and surveying services for pedestrian safety improvements at two intersections on Great Seneca Highway (MD 119)—at Kentlands Boulevard and at Quince Orchard Road (MD 124)—with proposals due December 2, 2026.

The scope encompasses design of improvements within Maryland Department of Transportation State Highway Administration and City of Gaithersburg rights-of-way, with the City's engineering and surveying budget range of $150,000 to $175,000. The City anticipates total construction costs and construction inspection and testing in the range of $600,000 to $650,000, funded through developer agreement. Design must prioritize budget constraint. The City will not pursue right-of-way acquisition or easements unless absolutely necessary and will not perform utility relocation. The City is interested in exploring—within budget allowance—possible lane width reduction and a path/sidewalk connection from the intersection to Sioux Lane on the northbound direction of Great Seneca Highway, with both offered as alternates.

The consulting firm must deliver the project ready to bid within 14 months of Notice to Proceed, with all necessary approvals and permits in hand. Work is performed in Montgomery County, Maryland, at the two specified intersections.
