About this opportunity

The University of California, Los Angeles (UCLA) is seeking qualified Executive Architects for capital improvement projects through a Request for Qualifications (RFQ) focusing on laboratory remodel projects across multiple campus locations. The procurement seeks design firms to provide comprehensive architectural services including pre-design, building system investigation, programming, space planning, concept design, schematic design, design development, construction documents, bidding, and construction administration. Targeted project sites include the Center for the Health Sciences and various colleges and schools, with specific focus on research laboratories ranging from wet to BSL-1, BSL-2, and BSL-3 lab environments. Evaluation criteria will be detailed in Attachment A of the RFQ document, with UCLA reserving the right to select up to three Executive Architects for each designated project group. Key procurement dates include an advertisement period from May 5-27, 2025, with questions due by May 12, 2025, and final submissions required by 10:00 a.m. on May 27, 2025. Interested firms must download the complete RFQ packet from http://www.uclaplanroom.com, which requires creating a login and password.

The procurement emphasizes equal access to contracts and business opportunities, with candidate firms potentially required to demonstrate their Equal Employment Opportunity policy. Project budgets are anticipated to range from $3 million to $10 million, with corresponding design fees between $250,000 and $750,000 per individual project. Firms may submit qualifications for one project site (Group A or Group B) or multiple sites, using a single submittal package. The final selection and appointment of Executive Architects remains contingent upon project approval by the UC Board of Regents or their delegated authority. UCLA will assign awarded architects to projects based on their most relevant qualifications and experience. The contract term may extend up to three years, with projects to be executed through potentially several phased incremental stages. All work will be conducted under the jurisdiction of the Campus Building Official and Campus Fire Marshal, with project locations exclusively on the UCLA campus.
