Vendors must hold a current Fire Alarm/Low-Voltage License from the North Carolina State Board of Examiners of Electrical Contractors — a mandatory eligibility requirement. The Zoo is located at 3733 Old Cox Road, Asheboro, North Carolina 27205, and work must be performed during Zoo business hours (9:00 AM to 5:00 PM ET April through October; 9:00 AM to 4:00 PM ET November through March) with Zoo escorts required at all times.
The scope includes testing and inspecting 39 fire alarm systems, approximately 500 portable fire extinguishers in various classes (ABC, CO2, K Class, and Water), and fire sprinkler systems at designated locations. All work must comply with NFPA standards 72 (fire alarms), 10 (extinguishers), and 13 and 20 (sprinklers), as well as North Carolina fire codes and manufacturer specifications. The vendor must furnish all labor, materials, tools, and equipment. Emergency repair services must be available with a one-hour callback requirement and 24-hour on-site response capability. Vendors must provide hourly labor rates for repairs performed during and beyond business hours.
The contract term is three years, beginning March 6, 2027 and ending March 5, 2030, with the State reserving the right to extend after the final term. Bids must include proof of current licensure, at least three customer references using the Customer Reference Form, financial stability certification, and proof of North Carolina Secretary of State registration. Pricing must be submitted on Attachment A and through the Ariba Sourcing Tool. Written questions are due October 22, 2026 at 12:00 PM ET. Award will be made to the responsive bidder offering the lowest price, and the State reserves the right to award to a single vendor or make separate awards.
