About this opportunity
The Nebraska Department of Transportation is requesting bids for bridge repair and culvert work on Nebraska Highway 44 near US-6 and the Platte River in Holt County, with bids due August 27, 2026 at 1:30 p.m. Bidders must hold prequalification for Classes 9 and 10 (Bituminous and General work) — a hard eligibility filter.
The scope includes milling and resurfacing approximately 11.8 miles of roadway with asphalt, culvert replacement and repair, rehabilitation of a concrete box culvert over Lost Creek, guardrail replacement, spot grading, and construction stormwater management. Environmental constraints are substantial: work must comply with U.S. Army Corps of Engineers Nationwide Permit 3(a,c), protect wetlands and sensitive areas, observe Whooping Crane migration restrictions (March 6–April 29 and October 9–November 15), and observe construction activity limitations at mile markers 46.63–48.46 to avoid critical habitat impacts. The contractor must obtain a Construction Stormwater Permit and maintain a Stormwater Pollution Prevention Plan. Utility coordination is required with Charter Communications, Glenwood Telephone, Great Plains Communications, Windstream Communications, Tallgrass Energy, and Sunoco/NuStar Energy; potholing may be required for conflict verification. All utility adjustments and service interruptions for contractor convenience are the contractor's sole responsibility. The contract allows 100 working days for completion with an early start date of March 1, 2027 and a tentative start date of May 3, 2027 under flexible scheduling. A $5,000 per calendar day penalty applies if the culvert replacement at Station 383+24 is not completed within 14 consecutive calendar days. The project is federally funded through the Surface Transportation Program (Project No. STP-44-1(107)). Right-of-way has been acquired. Bids are accepted via mail or electronic submission through www.bidx.com. Davis-Bacon wage determinations apply. No DBE goal is specified.
