The vendor must be a licensed and qualified contractor capable of managing wastewater disposal in compliance with environmental regulations, and must furnish all necessary materials, tools, and equipment. Wastewater is removed for off-site disposal.

The Department anticipates pumping approximately once or twice per week, with Mondays and Fridays as the preferred schedule. Actual service needs may fluctuate with visitor volume, weather conditions, and special events. Recurring service is required to prevent overcapacity conditions and service disruptions during the spring, summer, and fall visitation periods.

Place of performance is Mount Mitchell State Park, with the jurisdiction listed as Watauga County, North Carolina (FIPS 37189). The opportunity was posted November 4, 2026.

Opportunity text

The North Carolina Department of Natural and Cultural Resources, Division of State Parks, requires a Vendor to provide septic tank pumping and disposal services for Mount Mitchell State Park. The Vendor shall provide all necessary materials, tools, and equipment. Mount Mitchell State Park currently relies on a temporary wastewater management system while construction and commissioning of a new permanent septic system are underway. To ensure uninterrupted park operations and protect public health and environmental resources, wastewater generated from park facilities is collected in a 10,000-gallon holding tank that requires regular pumping and off-site disposal by a licensed and qualified contractor. Due to seasonal visitation patterns and increased park usage during the spring, summer, and fall months, the holding tank must be serviced on a recurring basis to prevent overcapacity conditions, service disruptions, and potential environmental concerns. The Department anticipates that pumping frequency will vary based on visitor volume, weather conditions, and special events, with service expected approximately once or twice per week. To maintain adequate capacity, the preferred service schedule is Mondays and Fridays, although actual service needs may fluctuate throughout the contract period.
