About this opportunity
The State of Maine Division of Purchases is soliciting bids for an Olympus BX41 microscope, with bids due January 11, 2008. The procurement references a single-source manufacturer specification — the BX41 is a named clinical-grade optical instrument, not an open competitive category.
The BX41 is a binocular/trinocular system with UIS2 optics, transmitted-light frame, Kohler illumination (6V/30W halogen), detachable nosepiece, and magnification range of 1.25x to 400x depending on condenser configuration. The microscope accommodates multiple observation modes including brightfield, darkfield, Phase Contrast, polarization, and DIC (Nomarski) techniques. It features a rackless stage with adjustable tension for X and Y movement, low-positioned coarse and fine focus mechanisms, and modular design accepting video attachments, film cameras, and incident-light fluorescence illuminators. Condenser options range from basic Abbe (N.A. 1.1) to specialized phase-contrast and darkfield types, with nosepiece compatibility for sextuple or quintuple objectives. The stage includes a 25mm vertical stroke with coarse adjustment limit stop. Configuration options support both left- and right-handed operation.
Bids must specify unit prices delivered to destination and include all applicable discounts. The State is exempt from Federal and Maine State Sales and Use Taxes; bidders must quote prices exclusive of these taxes. All transportation charges are the contractor's responsibility unless otherwise specified. In tie-bid situations, preference is given to in-state bidders or those offering commodities produced or manufactured in Maine where price, quality, and availability are equal. The Division of Purchases reserves the right to reject any or all bids and increase or decrease ordered quantities by up to 10 percent. Bids must be received by the Division of Purchases in Room 119, 9 State House Station, State Office Building, Augusta, Maine prior to the closing deadline.
