About this opportunity
The City of Burlington, located in Alamance County, North Carolina, is soliciting sealed bids for the Maynard Aquatics Center Pool Enclosure project, a comprehensive construction initiative targeting infrastructure enhancement. Qualified general contractors are invited to submit bids for a multi-faceted construction effort involving general construction, plumbing, HVAC, electrical, civil, and audio/visual work. The project specifically entails constructing foundations and supporting infrastructure to erect a Tensile Membrane Aluminum Structure over an existing pool, along with renovating and expanding the current facility to create new family locker and toilet rooms. Sealed bids will be received on Thursday, November 13, 2025, at 2:00 pm at the Burlington Recreation and Parks Department, with a non-mandatory pre-bid meeting scheduled for October 23, 2025, at 10:00 am at the project site. Contractors are required to be properly licensed in accordance with North Carolina state law and must submit bids using standard forms provided by the architect, with digital bid documents available from Walter Robbs Architects. Bidders must submit a Bid Bond equal to 5% of the gross Base Bid and will be prohibited from withdrawing their bids for 60 days after the bid opening.
Contractors responding to this opportunity must meet specific licensing requirements for North Carolina and are expected to share bidding documents with their subcontractors, though digital copies will not be directly available to subcontractors from the architect's office. The procurement does not explicitly mention set-aside designations for disadvantaged enterprises or specific restrictions on bidder types beyond the state licensing requirements. Successful contractors will be required to provide Payment and Performance Bonds, each equal to 100% of the Contract Sum. Potential bidders can submit questions through October 30, 2025, with an addendum addressing inquiries to be issued on November 6, 2025. While a specific budget range is not disclosed in the documentation, the comprehensive nature of the project—involving structural, mechanical, and renovation components—suggests a substantial capital investment. The City of Burlington reserves the right to accept or reject any or all bids and to waive any informalities in the bidding process, providing flexibility in the procurement approach.
