About this opportunity

The South Dakota state government, specifically the Michael J. Fitzmaurice State Veterans Home located in Hot Springs, Douglas County, is seeking a comprehensive laundry services contractor through a Request for Proposal (RFP) issued on March 11, 2025. The procurement aims to secure a vendor capable of providing full-scale laundry processing services, including equipment, personnel, and vehicles to handle all laundry needs for the veterans' facility. The contractor will be responsible for picking up, cleaning, and delivering linens, with an estimated annual volume of 75,000 pounds of laundry. Key deliverables include providing all necessary equipment such as laundry bags, carts, and bins, as well as supplying linens like bed sheets and towels. The contract will initially run for one year, with potential extensions up to a total of five years. Proposals are due by April 30, 2025, with an anticipated award decision on May 10, 2025. Vendors must submit inquiries to Pamela Horton at pamela.horton@state.sd.us, with responses posted on the state's e-procurement system. The contractor must comply with South Dakota Department of Health administrative rules, OSHA bloodborne pathogen standards, and provide 24-hour contact information with the ability to correct deficiencies within 48 hours of notification.

The RFP does not specify explicit set-aside designations or restrictions on respondent types. While no information is provided about incumbent vendors or existing technology infrastructure, the proposal requires a detailed cost structure based on per-pound pricing for laundered dry weight. The pricing must comprehensively incorporate all expenses including labor, materials, supplies, transportation, insurance, employee benefits, and taxes. Although a specific budget range is not explicitly stated, the previous year's laundry volume of 75,000 pounds provides a baseline for potential contractors to estimate service scope and pricing. The facility requires the successful contractor to demonstrate robust infection control standards and the capability to handle potentially contaminated laundry in accordance with professional healthcare sanitation protocols. Interested vendors must carefully review the full RFP document and be prepared to meet the stringent operational requirements of a state veterans' healthcare facility.
