About this opportunity
The City of Gaithersburg, Maryland is requesting sealed proposals for the procurement, site preparation, construction, installation, and commissioning of eight new ADA-compliant bus shelters across selected bus stops, with proposals due December 9, 2026.
The scope encompasses shelters equipped with solar lighting and advertising panels installed at eight identified high-ridership locations on City right-of-way. The City reserves the right to add up to three additional sites from an identified pool of eleven stops, subject to budget availability and the City's sole discretion. Bidders must demonstrate experience in right-of-way concrete work and ADA compliance requirements for transportation facilities. The project addresses documented gaps in shelter coverage at transit stops currently offering only posts and benches, which the City identifies as creating inequity for frequent bus users lacking protection and comfort.
The contract will be structured as a lump-sum award to a single qualified contractor. Place of performance is within the City of Gaithersburg in Montgomery County. Proposal due date is December 9, 2026.
Opportunity text
The City of Gaithersburg ("City") is seeking sealed proposals for the procurement, site preparation, construction, installation, and commissioning of eight (8) new ADA compliant bus shelters across selected bus stops in the City. The project will replace existing inadequate infrastructure and introduce modern shelters equipped with solar lighting and advertising panels. The City has numerous bus stops without shelters, with many stops offering only posts and benches. This has resulted in unintended inequity for frequent bus users, who currently lack protection, comfort, and safety at many transit points. The City has identified up to eleven (11) bus stops on City Right of Way with high ridership that currently lack bus shelters. The base scope requires the installation of new shelters in eight (8) selected locations. Subject to budget availability and the City's sole discretion, the City reserves the right to add any of the remaining (3) sites to the final contract. The intent of this RFP is to establish a lump sum contract with a qualified contractor with experience in Right of Way concrete work in accordance with ADA compliance requirements for transportation facilities.
