About this opportunity
The California Department of Forestry and Fire Protection (CAL FIRE) is requesting bids for fence replacement services at its San Bernardino Unit Headquarters, with bids due June 15, 2026 at 5:00 p.m. and a mandatory pre-bid walk-through on June 8 at 1:00 p.m. Bidders must hold a valid C-13 Fencing Contractor or B General Building Contractor license from the California Contractors State Licensing Board and valid Department of Industrial Relations registration as a public works contractor — prerequisite qualifications that filter eligibility.
A 5% small-business preference applies to certified small businesses or non-small businesses subcontracting at least 25% of net bid price to certified small businesses. A Disabled Veteran Business Enterprise incentive of up to 5% is available based on verified DVBE participation levels.
The scope includes removal and disposal of existing chain link fencing and gates at 3800 North Sierra Way, San Bernardino; installation of approximately 1,100 linear feet of new black powder-coated commercial-grade metal fencing and gates; installation of three pedestrian gates with intercom and keypad systems; and provision of temporary fencing during construction. Work occurs during normal business hours, Monday through Friday, 8:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m., excluding state holidays. Bid submission requires three lump-sum line items: removal and disposal, installation of new fencing and gates, and temporary fencing services, plus a 10% contingency. Prevailing wage requirements apply if the total bid amount exceeds $1,000. Payment bonds are required if the bid exceeds $25,000. Contractors must maintain certificates of insurance naming CAL FIRE as additional insured.
The contract term runs from June 30, 2026 through June 29, 2027, with CAL FIRE retaining the right to extend for one additional year under the same terms. Written questions are due June 9, 2026. Award is made to the lowest responsive responsible bidder; tie bids are resolved by coin toss.
