About this opportunity
Montgomery County is seeking institutional mattresses through Invitation for Bid (IFB) #1178457, which will be issued and managed through BidNet's Maryland Purchasing Group electronic procurement platform. The solicitation requires vendors to provide mattresses with specific technical specifications, including 100% sealed construction with no external stitching or minimal inverted seams, integrated pillows (with some exceptions), and durable composition that is fire-retardant and fluid-resistant. Mattress cores must be 3.5 to 4.5 inches thick for jail cell bunk beds and constructed of polyester fiber without added chemicals, while hospital bed mattresses require a 4-inch fire-resistant polychloroprene foam core. All mattresses must meet stringent performance standards, including protection against blood-borne pathogens, bacteria resistance, anti-fungal properties, and compliance with federal flammability requirements (16 CFR Part 1632 and 1633) and California Technical Bulletins 117 and 603. The solicitation was posted on January 8, 2025, with electronic bid responses due by January 27, 2025, through the BidNet Direct platform, which requires free registration for potential vendors.
The procurement does not explicitly specify set-aside designations or restrictions for disadvantaged business enterprises. Vendors must register on the BidNetDirect platform using the "Limited" registration option, with technical support available through their support department at 800-835-4603. While specific budget ranges are not detailed in the solicitation, the comprehensive technical requirements suggest a specialized procurement targeting institutional settings such as correctional facilities and medical institutions. The 100% replacement guarantee for mattress defects indicates a focus on long-term product reliability and performance. Interested vendors must carefully review the complete technical specifications, particularly the core material requirements, bacteria resistance standards, and flammability compliance criteria, to ensure their products meet Montgomery County's exacting standards for institutional mattresses.
