About this opportunity

The State of Maine Division of Purchases is requesting bids on heavy-duty fiberglass composite service bodies with canopies, with bids due March 12, 2009. This is a Maine state procurement with a tie-bid preference favoring in-state vendors or those offering Maine-produced commodities.

The scope calls for fabrication and installation of a fiberglass composite service body on a 2009 GMC Sierra 3500HD pickup truck for the Department of Environmental Protection. The body measures 96 inches long, 82.75 inches wide, and 60 inches tall with interior headroom. Construction shall be fiberglass composite throughout with a steel understructure, 1/8-inch steel treadplate floor, aluminum header panel and tail skirt, and comprehensive undercoating. The exterior finish is GM paint code "9W3" (Wheatland Yellow) gelcoat with white interior compartments. The specification includes compartment layout with multiple shelves and dividers; 18-gauge galvanized shelving with 250-pound capacity ratings; all stainless steel latches, hinges, and hardware; vinyl-covered stainless steel cables on all doors; and a master rod lock system. The lighting package includes FMVSS-compliant components, strobes, and halogen flood lights. Accessories include backup alarm and seven-way RV trailer connector. All electrical connections must be sealed with heat shrink and protected with heavy-duty wire loom, with no Scotch-Lok style connectors permitted. Bidders must propose the vehicle complete and deliver it to the vendor for installation; all installation costs must be included in the bid. The estimated quantity is 2 units.

The State reserves the right to increase or decrease quantities by up to 10 percent. Awards will be made on an item-by-item or group basis as determined to best serve the State's interests. Bidders may propose alternate commodities with equivalent quality and performance if accompanied by complete identification and descriptive literature. Unit prices govern in cases of discrepancies between unit and total prices. Cash discounts of 20 days or more will be considered in determining the low bidder; discounts under 20 days will not be factored into award decisions.
