About this opportunity
The City of Cartersville Electric System is seeking professional engineering services to conduct a comprehensive fuse coordination and sectionalizing study for its electrical distribution system. The project aims to optimize the placement, sizing, and coordination of protective devices such as fuses, sectionalizers, and reclosers to enhance system reliability and ensure compliance with industry standards. The selected contractor will be responsible for collecting and reviewing system data, building an electrical system model, performing short-circuit and load flow analyses, evaluating existing protective device performance, developing time-current coordination curves, and recommending optimal fuse sizes, locations, and settings. Mandatory qualifications include a minimum of five years' experience in protective device coordination studies, proficiency with electrical modeling software, a licensed Professional Engineer on staff, and relevant project references. The RFP (Reference #25-103) requires comprehensive deliverables, including updated electrical system model files, time-current coordination curves, a detailed written report, GIS-compatible maps, and an executive presentation. The proposal submission deadline is November 10, 2025, with a planned one-year contract term from the award date. The electric system serves 9,508 customers, has a system peak of 118MW, and includes 40 distribution feeders across 15 electrical substations.
The procurement does not specify explicit set-aside designations or restrictions for disadvantaged enterprises. The contractor must provide comprehensive insurance coverage, including workmen's compensation, public liability, and automobile liability, with minimum coverage of $2,000,000 per occurrence. Compliance with Georgia's immigration verification requirements, including participation in the E-Verify program, is mandatory. While no incumbent vendors are identified, the project involves working with an existing electrical infrastructure consisting of 7,368 utility poles, 194.26 miles of overhead conductor, and 183.6 miles of underground conductor. Payment terms are NET 30, with invoicing occurring after all deliverables are submitted. Although a specific budget range is not explicitly stated, the complexity of the project and the extensive infrastructure suggest a significant professional services contract. The City of Cartersville Electric System will select the most technically qualified and economically acceptable organization to recommend to the Cartersville Mayor and City Council for the contract.
