About this opportunity
Grand Haven Area Public Schools in Michigan is requesting sealed bids for elevator and barrier-free lift device (BFLD) modernization and safety upgrades across seven facilities, with bids due August 5, 2026 at 10:00 a.m. and a mandatory pre-bid site walkthrough on July 27, 2026 at 8:00 a.m.
Scope encompasses elevator upgrades at Lakeshore Middle School, Ferry Elementary, the Education Service Center, High School Library, and High School PAC, plus BFLD upgrades at the High School Stage and Aquatics facilities. Work includes phase monitors, door lock monitoring systems, ADA-compliant phone systems, emergency lighting, space guards, and safety edge upgrades in compliance with ASME A17.1 standards. All equipment must be 100% non-proprietary and maintainable by any licensed independent elevator service contractor without original equipment manufacturer reliance — a hard constraint that filters bidders.
The district reserves the right to award projects individually, in groups, or as a single comprehensive contract. Bidders must submit itemized, standalone pricing for each location without combining totals. Contractors must hold valid state elevator contractor licensing and provide references from at least three similar K-12 projects completed within the last three years, project schedules with material lead times and execution duration, and completed cost proposal forms. Submittal also requires an Iran Linked Business Affidavit and Familial Disclosure Statement.
The successful contractor must provide a one-year full-replacement warranty on all newly installed components and one-year labor warranty on workmanship. Emergency callback response times are one hour for entrapped passengers and four hours for non-entrapment equipment malfunctions. Minimum insurance includes $1 million commercial general liability per occurrence, $2 million aggregate, $500,000 employer's liability, $1 million automobile liability, and $2 million commercial umbrella with the district named as additional insured. All contractor personnel must pass criminal background checks and fingerprinting; no direct student interaction is permitted. Contract award is anticipated within 30 calendar days following bid closing. Sealed bids submit to Jason MacKay at the district office, with public bid opening at 10:10 a.m.
