About this opportunity
The Minnesota Department of Natural Resources (DNR) is seeking bids for hazard tree removal services at Myre-Big Island State Park, located near Albert Lea in Freeborn County. The project requires the felling of 21 hazard trees across three park areas: New York Point (9 trees), Big Island Picnic Area (1 tree), and Big Island Campground (11 trees and 1 branch). Specific requirements include cutting trees over 24 inches in diameter flush to the ground, with smaller stumps to be left for park staff to handle. A mandatory pre-bid meeting is scheduled for Tuesday, May 27, 2025, at 10:00 am at the park's ranger station, and contractors who do not attend will have their bids automatically rejected. All bid responses must be submitted electronically through the Swift Portal by June 4, 2025, with the project expected to be completed by June 24, 2025. The DNR will evaluate bids based on the lowest responsible vendor meeting all specifications, with the ability to award the contract in a manner most advantageous to the state. Contractors must provide a comprehensive unit price that includes all associated costs such as labor, materials, tools, transportation, equipment, and taxes.
The procurement offers potential preferences for Minnesota-based small businesses, including those owned by minorities, women, veterans, and individuals with substantial physical disabilities. Contractors must be registered in the Swift Portal and meet specific insurance requirements, including workers' compensation, automobile liability, and commercial general liability coverage, with the State of Minnesota to be named as an additional insured. The DNR has established specific requirements for pollinator best management practices and invasive species prevention, including mandatory equipment cleaning prior to arriving at the project site. While no specific budget range is explicitly stated, the procurement is structured as a lump sum contract, with payment to be made upon full completion and acceptance by the project supervisor. Contractors seeking additional information or assistance with registration can contact the Contractor Assistance Help Desk at 651-201-8100, Option 1. The project supervisor, Carter Vogel, can be reached at 507-668-7061 for any specific questions related to the tree removal project.
