Opportunity text

Three partner parks and trails agencies have collaborated to deepen understanding of and appreciation for the natural world through public art: the Minnesota Department of Natural Resources (MN DNR); the Metropolitan Council (Met Council) Metropolitan Regional Parks; and the Greater Minnesota Regional Parks and Trails Commission (GMRPTC). An initial cooperative project in spring 2022 provided a high-level "snapshot inventory" of existing public art in Minnesota parks and trails from staff questionnaire and interviews, including a preliminary map of public art locations in parks and trails. This initial project provided a foundation to further develop and maximize the benefits of public art in parks and trails throughout Minnesota. The partner agencies implemented the Minnesota Parks Artist-in-Residence (MNPAiR) pilot program in 2024-2025 to create engaging and welcoming public art. Along with ongoing public engagement, especially through the Parks and Trails Legacy Advisory Committee (PTLAC), these efforts advance strategic priorities of the 25-Year Parks and Trails Legacy Plan. \[Partial description.
