About this opportunity
The Town of Durham, Connecticut is requesting sealed bids from qualified and properly licensed contractors for the complete demolition and removal of a structure located at 51 Main Street, with bids due October 8, 2026 at 2:00 p.m. EDT—the bid deadline has been extended from the original September 1, 2026 date. This is an Invitation to Bid (ITB) with no set-asides or incumbent preferences.
The scope includes demolition of the existing wood-framed structure and concrete foundation, removal and disposal of all demolition debris, collapse of the foundation into the existing cellar hole, proper backfilling and compaction, site cleanup, and abandonment of the septic tank in accordance with Connecticut requirements. The contract price must be submitted as a firm lump-sum bid covering labor, equipment, mobilization, approximately 220 linear feet of 8-foot-high chain-link fencing, demolition, debris removal, transportation, disposal, dust control, air quality monitoring by a qualified professional, backfilling, compaction, and final cleanup.
If the contract price exceeds $100,000, prevailing wage requirements apply. Contractors must provide a 100% Performance Bond and 100% Labor and Materials Payment Bond, as well as comprehensive insurance including general liability ($2,000,000 aggregate), commercial automobile liability ($1,000,000 per accident), workers' compensation, and pollution liability ($1,000,000 per claim/$2,000,000 aggregate). A 10% bid bond or cashier's check is required at bid submission. Proof of all licenses and certifications, vendor references, an affidavit of non-collusion, and an affirmative action/EEO affidavit must accompany the bid. Non-resident contractors performing work on contracts of $250,000 or more must comply with Connecticut's non-resident contractor tax requirements, including filing a Guarantee Bond with the Department of Revenue Services.
Work must be completed no later than May 1, 2026. A non-mandatory pre-bid walkthrough was held August 24, 2026. Questions should be directed to Matt Meeker at 860-349-8253 or mmeeker@townofdurhamct.org.
