About this opportunity
Burnett County, Wisconsin is seeking bids for a brush control project at the Crex Meadows Wildlife Area located north of Grantsburg. The procurement involves clearing approximately 780 acres of brush and shrubs during the winter of 2018/2019, with a contract termination date of June 15, 2019 or when ground conditions deteriorate. The primary objective is to remove woody vegetation by roller chopping trees up to 6-8 inches in diameter, ensuring they are permanently on the ground while preserving all birch trees. Contractors must navigate around wetlands and cut woody vegetation to within 8 inches of the ground. Equipment requirements mandate dozers of at least 145 horsepower with a 10-foot blade, though alternative equipment such as hydro axes, tree sharks, and fixed tooth mulchers will be considered. The bid solicitation was posted on January 18, 2019, with proposal submissions due by February 1, 2019. Some work units will include existing stumps, adding complexity to the clearing process.
No specific set-aside designations or restrictions for disadvantaged enterprises were explicitly mentioned in the contract opportunity. The procurement does not indicate any incumbent vendors or existing technological infrastructure requirements. While a precise award value was not specified, the scope of work covering 780 acres suggests a substantial contract with significant equipment and labor investments. The project appears to be a wildlife area management initiative focusing on habitat restoration and vegetation control. Potential bidders should be prepared to demonstrate equipment capabilities, environmental sensitivity when working around wetlands, and the technical expertise to effectively manage brush clearing in challenging terrain. Interested contractors would need to carefully review the site conditions, equipment specifications, and environmental constraints before submitting a competitive proposal.
