About this opportunity
Shepherd Public Schools is procuring construction services for an administration office addition at Odyssey Middle/High School located at 3441 S. Wise Rd., Mt. Pleasant, Michigan 48858. The project is divided into 16 distinct bid packages encompassing site work and demolition, concrete, rough and finish carpentry, drywall, insulation, acoustical work, doors and hardware, glazing, flooring, painting, specialties, casework and countertops, plumbing, mechanical, and electrical work. With JBS Contracting, Inc. serving as the construction manager, sealed bid proposals are due at 10:00 a.m. on Monday, July 15, 2019, at the Shepherd Public Schools Central Office, with an alternate submission option to JBS Contracting until 4:00 p.m. on Friday, July 12, 2019. The project is scheduled to commence August 1, 2019, and achieve substantial completion by January 1, 2020. Bidding documents are available through the Grand Rapids Builders Exchange, Central Michigan Plan Room, CAM Tri-Cities, and the State of Michigan Vendor Self-Services portal. A mandatory site visit is required for the sitework/demolition package, and all bidders must complete thorough examinations of contract documents and the project site prior to submission. Shop drawings, product data, and samples must be submitted within 30 days of work commencement, and daily cleaning and housekeeping are mandatory throughout the construction period with final professional cleaning required upon completion.
All applicable Michigan sales and use taxes must be included in proposals, and a 5 percent retainage will be imposed on the project with a minimum 12-month labor and material warranty required commencing at substantial completion. Alternate #1 requires bidders to provide a Performance, Labor, and Material Bond if the bid amount exceeds $50,000, with bids under that threshold potentially requiring bonding costs during post-bid interviews. The construction manager will provide dumpsters for general construction purposes, initial testing, barricades and fencing, temporary toilets, a field office, project signage, building permits and associated fees, final cleaning, and utility charges. Bidders are required to acknowledge any addenda issued during the bidding period, with addenda issued no less than five days prior to the proposal due date. The contract documents do not specify designated set-asides for disadvantaged enterprises or restrictions on respondent types, nor do they identify incumbent vendors, existing technology infrastructure requiring integration, or explicit award values or budget ranges.
