About this opportunity
Wicomico County Public Schools is seeking a contractor for computer and peripheral equipment recycling through an Invitation for Bid (IFB 99829-261). The procurement involves purchasing used computer equipment, including Dell computers, Apple iPads, Acer Chromebooks, printers, monitors, and other electronic devices located at various district locations. Equipment will be pre-binned on pallets and not separated by type, with removal typically occurring in April/May and October/November. The successful bidder must provide secure transport, ensure proper data destruction, and guarantee that all equipment is recycled or disposed of in accordance with ISO 14001:2015 standards. Bids are due by September 24, 2025, at 2:00 PM EST through the Euna/Bonfire Procurement Portal, with the contract period beginning upon award and remaining in effect until December 1, 2028. The district reserves the right to renew for two additional one-year periods. Contractor qualifications include being R2 certified through SERI or holding e-Steward Certification, with a minimum of three years of electronic recycling experience at a similar scope and size.
The procurement encourages participation from Certified Minority Business Enterprises (MBEs), with specific requirements for contractor responsibilities including providing collection bins, generating certificates of data destruction, and verifying weights of all pickups. The contractor will be required to prevent landfill disposal in the United States or foreign countries. Pricing is structured on a per-pound basis for various equipment categories, with the unique arrangement that the contractor will pay Wicomico County Public Schools for the recycled equipment rather than the district paying for the service. Payment will be made via check to the Wicomico County Board of Education. While specific budget ranges are not explicitly stated, the contract allows for additional billable services such as hard drive data destruction and sorting/palletizing, which will be separately invoiced to the school district. The contract's duration and potential two-year renewal option suggest a comprehensive and potentially valuable recycling opportunity for qualified electronic waste management providers.
