About this opportunity

The South Dakota Department of Public Safety Wildland Fire Division (SDWF) is seeking qualified contractors to perform hazardous fuels reduction treatment on approximately 31.74 acres of property located near Rapid City, South Dakota, specifically in Sections 19, 20, and 24 of Township 2N Range 6E in Pennington County. The procurement is a Request for Proposal (RFP) with solicitation number 24RFP9919, targeting contractors capable of executing comprehensive wildfire mitigation strategies including thinning, piling, chipping, mulching, and grinding vegetation. Key deliverables include reducing fire risks through strategic vegetation management, with contractors expected to demonstrate expertise in wildland fire mitigation techniques. Evaluation criteria will encompass cost per acre, contractor expertise, available resources, project approach, and overall qualifications. Critical procurement dates include scheduled site visits on February 8 and 15, 2024, with proposals due by March 7, 2024, at 3:30 PM MST. Contractors may submit written inquiries via email to Adam Fritz at adam.fritz@state.sd.us, with SDWF reserving the right to award contracts to multiple contractors and negotiate scope and compensation.

The RFP does not specify explicit set-aside designations or restrictions for disadvantaged business enterprises. The contract term is established for two years, with SDWF indicating potential for multiple contractor awards. While no incumbent vendors are mentioned, the solicitation suggests a competitive procurement process open to qualified contractors with demonstrable wildland fire mitigation capabilities. The RFP does not provide a specific budget range or total contract value, instead focusing on per-acre pricing and comprehensive project evaluation. SDWF reserves substantial discretion in the procurement process, including the ability to reject any or all proposals and negotiate service scope and compensation with the highest-ranked offeror. Interested contractors should carefully review the detailed thinning, piling, and vegetation management specifications outlined in the RFP document to ensure compliance with project requirements.
