About this opportunity
Croswell-Lexington Community Schools is requesting sealed bids for ball field backstop replacement at Croswell-Lexington High School in Croswell, Michigan, with bids due October 2, 2026 at 1:00 p.m. EST. This is a non-prevailing wage project with no set-asides or local-vendor preferences.
The scope encompasses demolition of existing chainlink fabric, rails, and hardware; installation of new protective netting systems reaching 30 feet in height; installation of new 10.75-inch diameter powder-coated steel net posts with stainless steel tension cabling; installation of new 1-3/4 inch mesh netting; and placement of a new 2-foot-high black vinyl chainlink fence fabric on modified backstop posts. Work includes restoration of disturbed areas with topsoil and seed for lawn areas and MAR-CO Clay Washington Ball Mix to 4-inch compacted depth for infield areas. All existing structures — backstop, masonry wall, dugouts, batting cages, scoreboard, and 4-foot gate — remain in place. The contractor is solely responsible for locating and protecting underground utilities; damage repairs must be completed within 48 hours at contractor expense.
The milestone schedule requires work completion between October 19, 2026, and December 4, 2026. Award will be based on quality, completion time, construction features, and value, not solely lowest bid. Bidders must submit a site visit prior to bidding, a bid bond or certified check equal to 5% of bid amount, and bids guaranteed firm for 90 days. Successful bidders with bids of $50,000 or more must furnish performance and payment bonds in full amount through Treasury-listed surety companies. All sales tax and use tax must be included in bid price. The contractor must provide comprehensive general liability insurance with minimum limits of $1,000,000 per occurrence and $2,000,000 general aggregate, along with workers' compensation, automobile liability, and excess umbrella coverage of $4,000,000. The owner retains 10% of progress payments until final completion. Contractors incur a $1,000 per day observation fee for each day projected schedule deadlines are missed due to contractor negligence. The contractor must submit a detailed master construction schedule within 15 days of award and commence work within 5 days of receiving notice to proceed.
