About this opportunity

The City of Ansonia, Connecticut is soliciting sealed bids for construction of Train Station Area Pedestrian Accessibility Improvements under State Project No. 02-131 and Federal-aid Project No. PEDS(261), with bids due November 30, 2026 at 3:00 p.m. No set-aside or local-vendor preference applies; the City states that Minority and Women's Business Enterprises are encouraged to apply. Vendor questions are accepted November 9 through November 16, 2026, with the question period closing at 2:45 p.m. on November 16.

The scope covers all labor, tools, materials, and equipment for downtown sidewalk reconstruction around the train station, including ADA-compliant curb ramps, removal and reset of granite curbing, bituminous concrete pavement reconstruction and patching, pavement markings and signage, and catch basin conversions. Plans specify multiple ramp types designed to ADA standards and PROWAG guidelines, and the work must adhere to CTDOT standard sheets and specifications. Required practices include erosion and sedimentation control, tree protection, concrete washout areas, and maintenance of traffic. Erosion control plans and washout designs must be submitted before construction begins. Prevailing Federal and State wage rates, OSHA regulations, and the Contract Work Hours and Safety Standards Act apply.

Bidders must visit the site before submitting proposals. The contract will be awarded to the lowest responsible, responsive, and qualified bidder, and the City reserves the right to reject any or all bids. Each bid requires a bid bond or certified check equal to 10 percent of the base bid, payable to the City of Ansonia, and bids cannot be withdrawn for 120 days after opening. The lowest responsible bidder must provide a Performance Bond and a Labor and Material Payment Bond, each equal to 100 percent of the contract price. The project manual specifies a one-year guarantee period from substantial completion for all materials, equipment, and work.

Bids may be submitted electronically to Beth Lynch (blynch@ansoniact.org) or Diana Branch (dbranch@ansoniact.org), or by hard copy to the Office of the Town & City Clerk at 253 Main Street, Ansonia, Connecticut 06401. Bids will be publicly opened and read aloud after the deadline. Contract documents are available on the City's website and the DAS Contracting Portal. Questions may be directed to Sheila O'Malley at 203-437-1598 or s.omalley@sheltonedc.com.
