About this opportunity
Gaston College is requesting sealed bids for AHU redesign, mechanical, electrical, and plumbing work at the Beam Administration Building on its Dallas Campus in Dallas, North Carolina, with bids due September 10, 2026 at 2:00 PM and a mandatory pre-bid conference on August 27, 2026 at 10:30 AM. A 10% minority business participation goal under North Carolina General Statute 143-128.2 applies; contractors must make good faith efforts toward this target.
The scope includes removing the existing steam-powered heating system and replacing it with a hot water heating system; installing one condensing boiler, primary pumps, an air and dirt separator, and one new air handler unit; installing ion-generating air purifiers on the air handler; daily cleanup of work areas and entry paths; repair of any damage to buildings, walkways, and foliage at the contractor's expense; and correction of installation deficiencies preventing inspector sign-off. Training on all new equipment for facilities maintenance personnel is required. Work must be completed by December 4, 2026, with a schedule of 7:30 AM to 4:00 PM Monday through Friday; weekends and evenings require advance scheduling to avoid interference with student classes.
Bids must include a lump-sum price with material and labor breakdown for base bid work and separate pricing for alternates, applicable North Carolina licensures, material lists, proposed construction schedule, warranty information, three-year history of public projects completed, three references, signed proposed contract documents, Certificate of Insurance, and W-9 forms. All work must comply with North Carolina General Statute 87 regarding contractor licensures. Contractors must register with the NC E-Procurement system within seven days of award and furnish Performance and Payment Bonds in the full contract amount. Minimum insurance requirements include comprehensive general liability ($500,000 per occurrence / $100,000 property damage per occurrence / $300,000 aggregate), workers' compensation with $100,000 employer's liability, and property insurance on the entire work. Award will be made to the lowest responsive bid meeting written specifications; the State reserves the right to make separate awards to different vendors, waive minor informalities, or reject any or all bids.
