About this opportunity
Grand Rapids Public Schools (GRPS) is requesting qualifications for architectural and engineering (AE) design services for renovations at Union High School, Harrison Park, and Campus Elementary Schools, with qualifications due October 27, 2026 at 11:00 a.m. and RFI questions due October 23, 2026 at 10:00 a.m.
The district is pursuing a multiple bid package phasing strategy to compress the overall timeline. For Union High School and Harrison Park, Bid Package 1 spans design (January–March 2027), bidding (March–April 2027), finance recommendation (April 16, 2027), board approval (May 10, 2027), and construction (June 7–August 1, 2027). Bid Package 2 follows with design (February–May 2027), bidding (June 2027), finance recommendation (July 16, 2027), board approval (August 9, 2027), and construction (September 2027–June/July 2028, contingent on school-year work approval and scholar protections). Owner move-in is anticipated July–August 2028 when Westwood relocates to Union.
The scope includes mechanical and electrical work: water heater replacements, temperature controls and VAV box replacements, flush valve replacements, chiller and heat pump replacements, and AHU replacements across all three schools. Architectural scope includes classroom reconfigurations at Union High School. GRPS requires AE/CM teams to provide appropriate building separations for occupied facilities and develop comprehensive phasing plans that accommodate scholar needs during construction. The district is open to cost-effective solutions that maintain project end dates.
Addendum No. 1, issued October 21, 2026, revised the proposal submission deadline and established the RFI question deadline noted above.
