About this opportunity
California Department of Forestry and Fire Protection (CAL FIRE) is requesting bids on vegetation management services for fire fuels reduction at the North Fork Mokelumne Demonstration State Forest near Pioneer, California, with bids due July 8, 2026 at 2:00 p.m. Pacific Time and a mandatory pre-bid walk-through on June 29, 2026 at 10:00 a.m. A 5% Small Business preference is available for certified SB contractors (not to exceed $50,000 in preference value), and a Disabled Veteran Business Enterprise incentive of up to 5% applies for verified DVBE participation.
The scope covers mechanical mastication and hand crew vegetation management across an estimated 175 acres divided into three treatment units to remove understory vegetation, shrubs, and small trees up to eight inches diameter at breast height. The contractor supplies all materials, labor, equipment, tools, permits, taxes, and transportation. Work is performed Monday through Friday during normal business hours, with operations suspended between December 15 and March 21. Treatment compliance must meet 90% of specification requirements as evaluated by CAL FIRE on-the-ground inspection beginning after the first acre, with periodic reinspection thereafter. Subcontracting is not permitted.
The agreement runs from August 1, 2026 through July 31, 2028, with a one-year extension option available. Contract value is determined based on actual acreage treated at the bid rate (bid costs must be submitted per-acre basis and include employer payments, insurance, and all other expenses). A Payment Bond of 100% is required if the bid exceeds $25,000. Prevailing wage requirements follow both California and federal Davis-Bacon Act standards applicable to Amador County, and bidders must register with the Department of Industrial Relations. Award is made to the lowest responsive responsible bidder. Written questions are due by June 30, 2026, and bids open on July 9, 2026 at 10:00 a.m.
