About this opportunity
The University of California, Santa Cruz (UCSC) is seeking Fire Protection Engineering Services through a Request for Qualifications (RFQ) for a life safety modernization project spanning multiple campus residence halls. The procurement specifically targets fire alarm system upgrades in Rachel Carson Apartments, Rachel Carson Residence Halls, and Porter College Residence Hall A, with the primary objective of replacing existing panels and end devices to improve emergency response capabilities. Qualified consultants will be responsible for comprehensive services including Pre-Design and Assessment Study, Planning, Design and Construction Documents, Bidding, and Construction Administration. The RFQ requires professionals with expertise in fire protection engineering who can implement Siemens XLS panels and associated end devices. Submission requirements include a Letter of Intent, Statement of Qualifications (SOQ), and standard University documentation. The solicitation was posted on January 14, 2025, with proposals due by 2:00 p.m. on February 4, 2025, and tentative interviews scheduled for February 2025.
The contract opportunity emphasizes equal access to contracting opportunities and requires candidates to demonstrate equal employment opportunity policies. Consultants must be registered with the California Department of Industrial Relations (DIR) and carry specific insurance coverages, including General Liability, Professional Liability, Automobile Liability, and Worker's Compensation. The project budget range is estimated between $600,000 and $1,000,000, covering design and potential implementation phases. While no specific set-aside designations for disadvantaged enterprises are explicitly mentioned, the University appears committed to providing broad access to the procurement process.
