About this opportunity
Chatham County, Georgia is soliciting bids through its Purchasing and Contracting Department for Bid No. 25-0114-2, a project to replace the existing flagpole at the Rodney J. Hall Boat Ramp. The procurement seeks a qualified vendor to supply and install a new 100-foot tall, 14-inch tapered steel flagpole with an internal halyard and winch, constructed of A-36 carbon steel. The project requires providing a 30' x 60' U.S. flag and includes comprehensive installation services such as backhoe work, excavation, ground sleeve installation, concrete pouring, assembly, welding, painting, and site cleanup. A pre-bid conference is scheduled for September 3, 2025, at 2:00 PM, with the final bid opening on September 23, 2025, at 2:00 PM. Contractors must meet manufacturer specifications, industry standards, and obtain all necessary permits, with work expected to commence within 10 days of the "Notice to Proceed" and be completed within 90 calendar days. The project is specifically located at 25 Diamond Causeway in Savannah, with the boat ramp being one of eleven county boat ramps featuring two three-lane ramps, a courtesy dock, bait shop, pavilion, and restrooms.
The bid includes a combined Minority/Woman Business Enterprise (M/WBE) participation goal of 30%, requiring bidders to demonstrate good faith efforts in subcontracting with qualified M/WBE vendors. A Geotechnical Engineering Report from Terracon has already been completed, specifying a thirty-six-inch round, eighteen-feet deep foundation with a re-bar reinforced cage and concrete testing requirements. The contract is structured as a one-time procurement, with bidders expected to provide comprehensive pricing that includes all materials, labor, and insurance. Chatham County emphasizes equal opportunity purchasing and aims to ensure all segments of the business community can participate in the procurement process. While no specific budget range is explicitly stated, the comprehensive nature of the project suggests a significant investment in infrastructure improvement. The county's approach demonstrates a commitment to both community development and inclusive contracting practices, with a clear focus on quality infrastructure and diverse vendor participation.
