About this opportunity

The U.S. Department of State's U.S. Embassy Sarajevo is seeking applications for the Women's Empowerment Small Grants Program in Bosnia and Herzegovina (BiH). This grant opportunity (BH-001-FY2025) supports NGO efforts to enable women as equal participants in economic, civic, and political life in BiH, with a focus on proposals that go beyond awareness-building to promote action or create behavior change and institutional change. Proposals that build solidarity among women from different cities, political parties, or ethnic groups, and that support vulnerable and marginalized women in BiH, will be particularly competitive. The application deadline is January 27, 2025.

The grant awards range from $1,000 to $50,000, with a total available funding of $275,000. The program is funded through the AEECA/ESF PD Programs (CFDA 19.900) which support civil society and democracy building initiatives across Europe, Eurasia, and Central Asia. Eligible applicants include non-governmental, non-profit organizations, educational institutions, and independent media organizations based and registered in BiH. Projects must have a 12-month performance period and address themes such as women's economic participation, political engagement, leadership development, prevention of gender-based violence, or grassroots civil society initiatives.
