About this opportunity

The Bureau of Reclamation is seeking proposals for the WaterSMART Applied Science Grants program, which aims to fund projects that improve access to and use of hydrologic data, develop and improve water management tools, and enhance modeling and forecasting capabilities. Eligible applicants include states, Indian tribes, irrigation districts, water districts, universities, and nonprofit research institutions located in specified Western states and territories. Proposed projects will be evaluated on their ability to increase water supply reliability, provide flexibility in water operations, improve water management, and support nature-based solutions. The program will provide approximately $6-10 million per funding round to support 15-25 projects, with individual awards of up to $400,000 in federal funds per agreement. Recipients will be required to provide 25-50% cost sharing depending on project type. Projects must be completed within 2 years and should focus on water management objectives such as water supply reliability, delivery management, drought response, and environmental requirements.
